A new study found that U.S. vacation renters waste approximately $2 billion worth of food annually at short-term rentals, such as Airbnb, with an average of $12 in uneaten groceries and leftovers discarded per night. The research suggests that providing guests with information about food donation and composting options could significantly reduce this waste, as about three-fourths of travelers expressed interest in such guidance from their hosts.
